Urban Zones of New Zealand
In New Zealand an urban zone is a subdivision of an urban area. As of 2008 there are four urban areas in New Zealand that have been divided into zones. All urban zones are in the North Island. The Auckland Urban Area is divided into four urban zones: Northern Auckland, Western Auckland, Central Auckland and Southern Auckland. The Northern Auckland Zone comprises all of North Shore City and the Hibiscus Coast, an area in Rodney District including Orewa and the Whangaparoa Peninsula. The Western Auckland urban zone is mostly situated within Waitakere City, although some semi-rural tracts of land in the vicinity of Kumeu in Rodney District are also considered part of western Auckland. The Central Auckland Urban Zone is the mainland part of Auckland City, and excludes the Hauraki Gulf islands. The Southern Auckland Urban Zone consists of the urban part of Manukau City (the east of the city), Papakura District, and parts of Franklin District (Runciman and Whangapouri Creek).
